Cockles in France

Wednesday, 27 August 2008 12:00 A GMT+01
I blogged a while back about scraping around in the sand for cockles on a beach in France.  Here are the photos and the recipe...Cockles with rose wine and creme fraiche

Normandy

Wednesday, 23 July 2008 5:36 P GMT+01
It's a mild evening.  A tabby cat silently rubs itself round my ankles before wandering off on guard duty elsewhere.  The only sound is of a Union Flag fluttering gently in the breeze and a few birds going about their business...

Foie gras, Marsala shallots, frissé and hazelnut toast

Monday, 10 March 2008 6:59 P GMT+01
This entry has been kicking-round my draft folder since Christmas - here it is in all its politically incorrect glory - if you don't like the idea of foie gras, don't read on!

A kind of bourride

Tuesday, 2 October 2007 12:00 A GMT+01
The classic bourride is a fish soup-come-stew from the South of France; pungent with garlic it is thickened with aioli rather than cream. This isn't the classic recipe though...

Chicken Zagarella!

Tuesday, 31 July 2007 8:38 A GMT+01
This - belatedly - is the first of my holiday recipes.  Self-catering was definitely the way to go; visiting markets and small shops throughout the day, lunching somewhere nice, then coming back to cook some local food was a great policy.

Seafood, salt, ham and wine... a trip to the Vendée

Wednesday, 11 July 2007 10:48 A GMT+01
We're back from our trip to France - here's the low down on what's good to eat in The Vendee - ham, cheese, fish and seafood - and the wine of course.

Coriander Duck with Peas

Tuesday, 26 June 2007 12:00 A GMT+01
I'm sure a French translation of this dish would sound more romantic, but frankly, my French spelling isn't up to it. This was a Father's day treat I made for myself - and really enjoyed the coriander seed flavour with the duck.

Anyone for avocado, banana and leek pudding?

Wednesday, 13 June 2007 2:17 P GMT+01
I don't often post restaurant reviews, but thought I really should tell you about my Monday night in Paris experience. Perhaps the most 'interesting' dessert menu I've yet to find!
